I should start at the very beginning of my journey, but in time we will get to that. I'm starting in the here and now. I have always used crafting as relaxing and meditation after a long days work. I can be alone in my thoughts, prayers can be said and simply talking to God while creating something new.
I had a store front in a local Vintage Market and I did pretty good. Always made enough money to cover rent and some months even a good profit. Due to some unseen circumstances along with the welcoming my mother and father in law into our home, I made the decision to shut the store down. The care taking of my father in law through his illness and subsequent death, somewhat drained the creativity out of me for about a year and a half. I didn't have time to keep up with the inventory of the store which was all made by me, while working full time and caring for our parents. I didn't have time to enjoy the meditation and quiet time with God. Our lives were now about service, love and putting others needs before ours.
During this journey, both my husband and I had already enrolled in a retreat at our Parish called "Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP)." Although the timing wasn't perfect, we both attended our retreat and became immediately closer to Our Father and Faith. It was there that we knew we had to put Christ before ourselves, the caring of Mom and Dad, and incorporated Christ into every aspect of our lives. Our life, although still trying, became more enriched and it helped us prepare ourselves to the death of Dad.
My thoughts turned to how do I serve God and share my faith through my art? How could I witness to others through something I love? I began with making a simple t-shirt to sell as a fundraiser for our parish's next CRHP retreat. Then the light bulb went off and I knew that I was being called to enhance the vision of Kat's Creations. I started small with making gifts for family and friends but was having a difficult time finding Catholic gift stores online or in our area that sold more than the traditional pieces I had seen since my childhood. I knew that the Catholic faith had changed and will continue to change, but why wasn't there anything besides the traditional to show these changes? That became the inspiration for my website, bringing a more modern flair to Catholic jewelry, rosaries and home decor. I hope you enjoy my creations as well as my journey to live my faith without fear of being a witness to my love of The Lord.
